HISTORY

It was 1972, and Al Gerstel had an idea. He had been working as a credit manager on New York’s 34th Street, extending credit to apparel companies – and he saw how hard it could be to get those same companies to pay. Collection agents were constantly calling to offer their help. But Al decided he could do a better job himself.  So, he started working after hours to build his own agency.

Al quickly earned a reputation for outstanding client service that lasts to this day. When Al unexpectedly died in 1990, his two sons, Marc Gerstel and Robert Gerstel respectively, committed to carrying on their father’s legacy. Having grown up in the business stamping envelopes as kids, they would now take the reins and lead AGA into a new era of growth as one of the nation’s leading collection agencies.  In March 2019, AGA was acquired by Trivest, a private equity firm.
